Strengthening UNPRI’s International Reputation and Global Competitiveness through the QS World University Rankings Workshop

Padang, December 9, 2025 – Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI) continues to demonstrate its commitment to improving quality and global competitiveness by participating in the QS World University Rankings Workshop organized by Universitas Andalas (UNAND) on Tuesday (9/12), held at the Convention Hall of Universitas Andalas, Padang.

The event ran from 08:00 AM WIB until completion and was attended by leaders and representatives of both public and private higher education institutions across Sumatra. UNPRI was represented by Muhammad Aditya Kurnia, SKM., MPH., Ph.D., who attended as the institutional delegate to deepen strategic understanding related to the methodology and policy of the world university rankings by QS (Quacquarelli Symonds).

The workshop featured Mr. E. Wang Chong, Regional Director Developing Markets QS, who presented comprehensive, systematic, and highly professional material on the latest developments in the QS World University Rankings. In his presentation, Mr. Chong explained in detail the main QS indicators, global trends in higher education, and the correlation between graduate quality, academic reputation, research, and relations with the industrial world.

In addition to its role as an international ranking agency, QS was also presented as having a strategic role in promoting global collaboration through international conferences, academic networks, and institutional development programs across countries. This provides important insight for UNPRI in formulating future steps to strengthen university internationalization.

In his address, Dr. Eng. Muhammad Makky, Director of Downstreaming and Research at UNAND, emphasized that although the activity took place amid grief due to the natural disaster in West Sumatra, higher education institutions must still be present and contribute meaningfully to society. He asserted that university research should not only be publication-oriented but also provide direct and sustainable impact for the community.

For UNPRI, participation in this workshop is part of an institutional strategy to strengthen higher education governance, enhance research and graduate quality, and expand international cooperation networks. It is hoped that the understanding gained from this activity can be implemented in the development of UNPRI's internal policies, aligning with the standards and best practices of world-class universities.

Through this forum, UNPRI also sees opportunities for strategic collaboration among universities in the form of joint research, student and lecturer exchanges, international programs, and tangible contributions towards achieving SDGs 4, SDGs 9, SDGs 17.
