Electrical Engineering, Medan’s Favorite Campus UNPRI Holds an International Lecture by the PUI-PT on Health Based on IoT & Renewable Energy

UNPRI Strengthens International Collaboration in IoT and Renewable Energy for Health

UNPRI, Medan – The Bachelor of Electrical Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Science and Technology (FAST) at Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI), once again affirms its role as one of the leading study programs at a socio-technopreneurship-oriented and top-tier university in North Sumatra. Through an event titled: International Talk on IoT & Renewable Energy-Based Health PUI-PT, the program invited experts from Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) to share insights on the application of the Internet of Things (IoT) and renewable energy in modern healthcare. The event took place in the 12th Floor Classroom, FAST UNPRI Building, Medan, on Tuesday (October 8, 2024).

This international lecture is part of UNPRI’s effort to maximize the role of its Center of Excellence for University Innovation (PUI-PT) on IoT & Renewable Energy-Based Health, which operates under the Electrical Engineering Study Program. This center focuses on research related to smart technology and sustainable energy applications to support more efficient and eco-friendly human health systems. “Through this event, we aim to expand research collaboration among lecturers and students, both nationally and internationally,” said Winner Parluhutan Nainggolan, S.T., M.Kom., Head of the Electrical Engineering Study Program at UNPRI.

The event featured three speakers from UniMAP, Malaysia: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ir. Muhammad Irwanto, S.T., M.T., with the topic Wireless Photovoltaic Power Transfer on Human Health Application; Assoc. Prof. Ts. Ir. Dr. Muzammil bin Jusoh, C.Eng., who presented Smart Health Care: Leveraging IoT for Real-Time Monitoring and Diagnostics; and Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Zulkarnay Zakaria, with the topic Magnetic Induction with IoT-Based Technology for Biomedical Application. All three discussed the potential of IoT and renewable energy technologies in developing future integrated and efficient healthcare systems.

According to Winner Parluhutan Nainggolan, this event is also concrete proof that UNPRI excels not only in the quantity of students but also in academic quality, research, and international networking. “This international lecture is a concrete step for UNPRI toward becoming a world-class university. We are grateful that the event ran smoothly and opened opportunities for future collaborative research,” he said. He added that UNPRI Electrical Engineering students are also equipped with competency certificates through the Prima Professional Certification Institute (LSP Prima) and a Diploma Supplement (SKPI) as added value to strengthen their readiness for careers in the industrial and technology sectors.

The Bachelor of Electrical Engineering Study Program at UNPRI is the only program in Sumatra directly integrated with a private university (PTS) that owns the largest number of university-affiliated health facilities in Indonesia. This provides students with internship opportunities and real-world learning experiences at Royal Prima General Hospital Medan, Royal Prima Marelan Hospital, Prima Vision Eye Hospital, Prima Dental and Oral Hospital, and even UNPRI Hospital in Tebing Tinggi. The integration between engineering and healthcare makes UNPRI unique and relevant to global trends, where technology and healthcare services are now interconnected through smart systems based on IoT and renewable energy. Therefore, the implementation of this International Talk aligns with the vision and mission of the Electrical Engineering Study Program to produce graduates with an IT-based socio-technopreneurship mindset—active, innovative, creative, adaptive, ethical, and of good character.

The Electrical Engineering Study Program at UNPRI is also one of seven flagship programs under the Faculty of Science and Technology (FAST), along with Industrial Engineering, Informatics Engineering, Information Systems, Visual Communication Design, Architecture, and Civil Engineering. With a strong foundation in theory, practice, and industry-research networking, students are guided to become graduates who are not only ready for employment but also capable of creating new job opportunities in the fields of electrical engineering, electronics, telecommunications, renewable energy, and robotics. “In essence, upon graduation, UNPRI students are not only ready to work but also ready to become entrepreneurs in their respective fields without limiting themselves to the opportunities right before their eyes,” concluded Winner Parluhutan Nainggolan.
