Nanotechnology Innovation for Pharmaceutical Products

FKKGIK UNPRI Holds Public Lecture

On Tuesday, July 2, 2024, the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry, and Health Sciences, Universitas Prima Indonesia (FKKGIK UNPRI) held a public lecture with the theme "Big Data and Data Science in Healthcare". This event was held face-to-face at the Main Campus Hall of Universitas Prima Indonesia. In this public lecture, FKKGIK UNPRI invited Prof. Dr. Apt. Yandi Syukri, M.Si, as a resource person. He is a professor in the field of pharmaceutical technology and formulation and nanotechnology, including lipid-based formulations and metal nanoparticles. Prof. Yandi Syukri has a track record that includes various important positions, such as Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Islamic University of Indonesia, Executive Secretary of the Indonesian FMIPA Deans Forum (MIPANET), Head of the Pharmacy Department, Islamic University of Indonesia, member of the Indonesian Pharmacist Code of Ethics Council (MKEAI) PD IAI DIY, and Head of the Indonesian Pharmacy Higher Education Association (APTFI).

The public lecture was guided by Apt. Asyrun Al-Khairi Lubis, S.Farm., M.Farm., as the moderator, and was attended by 500 students of the Clinical Pharmacy Undergraduate Study Program and pharmacist profession students.

In this public lecture, Prof. Dr. Apt. Yandi Syukri, M.Si, discussed in depth the development of nanoherbals from plant extracts, from the research stage to the downstream process. He explained how nanoherbal technology can increase the efficacy and safety of drugs derived from natural ingredients. This process involves the use of nanotechnology to modify the structure of active ingredients so that they have higher bioavailability, better stability, and fewer side effects. Prof. Yandi also explained several examples of research that successfully applied this technology, as well as the challenges faced in bringing the results of the research to the stage of commercialization and clinical use.

In addition, Prof. Yandi highlighted the great prospects of nanotechnology in the development of other pharmaceutical products. He emphasized the importance of innovation and further research in this field to produce more effective and safe drugs. FKKGIK UNPRI students are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to study in study programs that have been accredited as superior, because this accreditation shows high quality education and recognition from the professional world. With this capital, they have a great opportunity to contribute to future career development, including in the field of nanoherbal development from plant extracts. Prof. Yandi invited students to continue to develop their knowledge and skills, and to actively participate in research and innovation in the field of pharmacy.
