FTIK UNPRI Holds National Seminar II

The Role and Strategy of the Academic Community in Preparing Graduate Competencies to Answer the Challenges of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).

Faculty of Technology and Computer Science (FTIK) Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI held the 2nd National Seminar, with the theme of the Role and Strategy of the Academic Community in Preparing Graduate Competencies to Answer the Challenges of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).

Thus said the Dean of the Faculty of Technology and Computer Science (FTIK) Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI) and Computer Science UNPRI Abdi Dharma, M.Kom accompanied by the Chairperson of the Committee Mawaddah Harahap, M.Kom, Deputy I Mardi Turnip, M.Kom, Deputy II Ir. Hendrik Siagian, M.Kom, Secretary Siti Aisyah, and treasurer Winda Nia Purba, M.Kom to reporters, Wednesday (8/6) on campus. "The purpose of this seminar is solely to provide insight and knowledge about the MEA, and provide views on the role of the academic community and facing the MEA," said Abdi Dharma.

Therefore, said Abdi, his party presented two speakers, first Director of LSPTelematika, Construction Services Strategy Division of the Jakarta Professional Institute Victor Terinathe, S.E. Second, the General Chairperson of APTIKOM, Jakarta, Academic Community Views Division, Prof. Ir. Zainal Arifin Hasibuan, MLS, Ph.D.

Abdi said, the young generation, students and even graduates of state and private universities in Indonesia, especially Medan City, must continue to compete to find gaps and opportunities, to continue to seize opportunities, develop themselves to achieve success.

Abdi also mentioned that the quality and quantity of Indonesian workers continue to be a concern, both from within the country and in neighboring countries. This is because the issue of employment, skill ability and entrepreneurial spirit have become interesting words since the entry of the MEA in Indonesia.

In this situation, said Abdi, each country is making full efforts to increase the capacity of its citizens' resources considering that currently the ASEAN region will be fully integrated with the global political economy, socio-culture, media and communication. So that all groups put their main focus and hope on the world of education.

"In this reality, it is necessary for all parties to be prepared, including human resources, to improve the quality of education. As one of the main creators of the nation's generation, who must be ready to compete in the global era, universities should certainly be aware of the reality of the ASEAN Community positively," said Abdi. Abdi said that improving the quality of graduates is an absolute choice. At this level, standardization of higher education is one of the options so that the resources produced are truly strong and competitive.

This bespectacled man added, of course what needs to be done is a comprehensive and holistic evaluation, with significant improvements in the curriculum, student practices, scientific work and research of students and teaching staff, additional references, mastery of information and communication technology, mastery of media or media literacy, education and teaching systems or processes that are centered on students, creatively utilizing opportunities and chances, space and media applications for each student's creativity including its teaching staff.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Committee Mawaddah Harahap, M.Kom hopes that this national seminar can provide understanding and insight into the MEA, and can be a common foothold in examining the extent to which the role and strategy of the academic community must prepare competitive graduate competencies, and what opportunities and challenges will be faced in the MEA era will be discussed in this seminar.
