Head of Medan City Health Office: It is Very Important to Conduct HIV Tests on Pregnant Women
Royal Prima Hospital on Jalan Ayahanda Medan in collaboration with the Medan City Government held a Talk Show on HIV/AIDS Prevention in Medan City. The Talk Show event 'Jejak Lelaki Mencari Cinta" was attended by the Head of the Medan City Health Office, drg. Hj. Usma Polita Nst. M.Kes., Head of the Advisory Board of the Prima Indonesia University, dr. I Nyoman Ehrich Lister, M.Kes., AIFM., Head of the BPH Unpri Dr. Tommy Leonard, S.H., M.Kn., Head of Medan Petisah District Rakhmat Adisyah Putra Harahap, S.STP., Head of the Bestari Health Center, Medan Petisah District, dr. Indra Gunawan, dr. Mangatas Silaen, SP.oG., Advisor to Unpri, dr. Sofian Wijaya, M.H.A., Director of the Royal Prima Hospital, dr. Deli Theo Sp. PK, MARS, students of the Unpri Medical Faculty and residents around the Royal Prima Hospital. (06/12/2014)
On that occasion, the Head of the Medan City Health Office, drg. Hj. Usma Polita Nst, M.Kes explained the importance of pregnant women to take an HIV test, to reduce the transmission of HIV from mother to baby. "Pregnant women are advised to take an HIV/AIDS test as early as possible at the nearest Health Center, to ensure the right steps to prevent transmission to their babies," said Usma Polita at the HIV/AIDS Prevention Talk Show in Medan City, in the Multipurpose Room of the Royal Prima Hospital, 5th Floor, Jalan Ayahanda Medan.
Usma Polita also explained how to prevent Stigma and Discrimination against HIV/AIDS sufferers. It is hoped that People with HIV/AIDS (ODHA) will not stigmatize themselves and that health services for sufferers will be improved. For housewives and young women, Usma Polita also hopes that they will not have risky free sex with their partners. Free association like this can destroy the moral foundations of the nation, because bad habits usually spread quickly if not addressed immediately.
Meanwhile, the Director of the Royal Prima Hospital: dr. Deli Theo, Sp. PK., MARS added that the purpose of this Talk Show is to increase the insight of FK Unpri students and the insight of the community around Royal Prima Hospital about handling HIV/AIDS. So that our young generation and the community know what and how HIV/AIDS is, and also know how the symptoms and prevention are. "FK Unpri students and our community need to know how to prevent the transmission of HIV/AIDS," said dr. Deli
dr. Deli also said that Royal Prima Hospital has anticipated this. His party always sterilizes medical devices. So do patients. "Once the patient enters the hospital, everything is sterile, in order to avoid transmission of disease from patient to patient, or transmission from patient to nurse.
According to Dr. Deli, the number of PLWHA is increasing every day. Therefore, the role of the family is needed. The family is the first party who has the right and obligation to the condition of PLWHA. It is only right that the family becomes a companion, supporter, and protector for PLWHA. Being infected with HIV is not a death sentence. AIDS can be prevented with antiretroviral or ARV treatment. ARV treatment suppresses the rate of development of the HIV virus in the body, so that people with HIV infection can return to being "healthy" or "symptom-free". However, the HIV virus is still in the body and can still be transmitted to others.
The community's response to the HIV virus is an influence on PLWHA. Maybe some levels of society have not been able to accept PLWHA in their environment because they consider PLWHA to be dangerous. In fact, positive support and responses from people around PLWHA are people who can actually provide encouragement to think positively about their lives and can also provide useful things. for the community around the PLWHA.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Bestari Health Center, Medan Petisah District, dr. Indra Gunawan, said that HIV needs focused treatment, because it is a contagious disease. "If we are serious about tackling HIV/AIDS, it can be overcome, the important thing is that there is seriousness and continuous socialization to all levels of society," said dr. Indra.
This activity, said dr. Indra, is one of the efforts of the Health Center together with Royal Prima Hospital and the Medan City Health Office to tackle HIV/AIDS. Intensive socialization in the community can eliminate fear of HIV. "Hopefully with the Talk Show at Royal Prima Hospital, the community can get to know more about HIV/AIDS," he said.
To the FK Unpri students, dr. Indra hopes that the information obtained can be transmitted to his residents, neighbors, neighbors and family, on how to prevent the disease. In this activity, said Dr. Idra, his party provided awareness to mothers and young women so that they understand that sexual intercourse with an unclear partner can transmit HIV/AIDS.
