Efforts of IAI North Sumatra and UNPRI in Producing Globally Competitive Young Architects

A Tangible Commitment of UNPRI to Aligning the Architecture Curriculum with National and Global Professional Competency Standards.

The Faculty of Science and Technology of Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI), through the Architecture Study Program, organized a socialization event titled "Association of the Indonesian Institute of Architects (IAI) North Sumatra Province" on Friday, January 30, 2026. This activity was attended by lecturers and students of the Architecture Study Program as part of an effort to strengthen the understanding of the professional world from an early stage.

The event was officially opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology, Prof. Ir. Bhakti Alamsyah, M.T., Ph.D. In his remarks, he emphasized the importance of synergy between the academic world and professional organizations to shape architecture graduates who possess integrity and competence and are ready to face professional challenges in the future.

"It is vital for students to understand that being an architect is not just about designing buildings but also about upholding professional responsibilities governed by a code of ethics and competency standards. This synergy with IAI is a strategic step to ensure our curriculum remains relevant to the needs of the current architectural industry," stated Prof. Bhakti Alamsyah.

The socialization featured speakers from the Indonesian Institute of Architects North Sumatra Province, namely Ar. Agus Jhonson H. Sitorus, IAI, from the Education Sector, and Ar. Irwan Sutiono, IAI, from the Professional Sector. Both speakers provided a comprehensive presentation regarding IAI's strategic role in developing the quality, ethics, and professionalism of architects in Indonesia.

Ar. Agus Jhonson H. Sitorus, IAI, explained IAI's role in supporting architectural education, including the link between academic curricula and professional competency standards. He also emphasized the importance of understanding the code of ethics and continuous mentoring for aspiring architects starting from their student years. Meanwhile, Ar. Irwan Sutiono, IAI, outlined the professional path for architects after graduating from university, covering IAI membership, the certification process, and career development opportunities in professional practice.

This activity is also part of UNPRI's commitment to supporting the achievement of SDGs 4 (Quality Education), SDGs 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and SDGs 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
