UNPRI, National Leading and Best Campus, Hosts Blood Donation Event Again, Targeting 200 Bags of Healthy Blood

Tangible Action by an Excellent Campus in Supporting the Health and Safety of Others

UNPRI, Medan – Every three months, the leading socio-technopreneurship campus, Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI), in collaboration with the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Medan City, organizes a blood donation activity as a form of social concern for public health. Since its initiation three years ago, this activity has been consistently held at the 10th Floor Mini Hall, UNPRI Main Campus, Jalan Sampul No. 3, Medan Petisah. On Monday (17/11/2025), the blood drive was held again with high enthusiasm from students, lecturers, and the entire academic community.

Seventeen PMI officers and two doctors, dr. Miftahul Khairani Lubis and dr. Zeki Zeid Alfan Madhy, with complete medical equipment including 15 folding beds, were ready from 08:00 AM WIB to provide the best service. The coordinator, Dr. Windania Purba, S.Kom., M.Kom., explained that UNPRI targeted 200 bags of healthy blood. She also encouraged the 8 faculties within UNPRI to send at least 70 students each to participate.

“Through official letters sent to the deans, we hope each faculty can send students to participate in this routine blood drive. Our target is 200 bags, and we hope all donated blood is healthy and fit for use,” said Dr. Winda, who is also an Information Systems lecturer at UNPRI.

Blood donation is a humanitarian and voluntary act of donating blood using a special needle directly connected to a blood bag, performed under professional supervision. Healthy blood is stored in blood banks for transfusion needs such as for accident victims, cancer patients, anemia, and other medical conditions. This noble activity by UNPRI helps save thousands of lives every year.

Currently, donating blood is no longer a frightening activity but a pleasant and caring one. There are no dangerous risks as long as donors comply with health requirements. PMI emphasizes that blood drives aim to maintain blood stock availability for national transfusion needs.

Besides benefiting the recipient, blood donation also offers health benefits for the donor, including stimulating the production of new red blood cells, maintaining heart health, promoting longevity, and assisting in early disease detection through screenings. During the event, Vice Rector III for Student Affairs and Alumni, Refi Ikhtiari, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D., also donated blood, stating that he does so regularly as part of a healthy lifestyle.

The activity ran smoothly with 226 registrants. After health screenings and eligibility selection, 139 bags of blood were successfully collected: Type A (29 bags), Type B (37 bags), Type O (66 bags), and Type AB (7 bags).

“We express our deepest gratitude to all donors, the committee, medical teams, and everyone involved. May every kindness benefit others,” said Dr. Winda. This initiative is a concrete step by UNPRI in supporting SDGs 4, SDGs 9, SDGs 17 for the welfare of the community.
