The Chancellor of UNPRI, the Leading and Leading Campus, Officially Announces the Opening of the Psychology Professional Program, the First Private University on the Island of Sumatra.

UNPRI officially opened the Psychology Professional Program, becoming the first private university in Sumatra to produce professional psychologists with character and global competitiveness.

UNPRI, Medan – The Rector of Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI), Prof. Dr. Chrismis Novalinda Ginting, M.Kes., AIFO-K., officially announced the opening of the Professional Psychologist Program (PPP) at the Faculty of Psychology on Tuesday (October 7, 2025), held at the Main Meeting Room, 10th floor, UNPRI Campus, Jalan Sampul, Medan Petisah. The announcement followed the receipt of Decree No. 864/B/O/2025 from the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, authorizing the establishment of the Professional Psychologist Program at UNPRI Medan, handed directly by Prof. Drs. Saiful Anwar Matondang, M.A., Ph.D., Head of LL-DIKTI Region I North Sumatra.

This program is the first and only one offered by a private university (PTS) in Sumatra, particularly in North Sumatra. With this milestone, the Faculty of Psychology now offers two leading study programs: the “Very Good” accredited Bachelor of Psychology and the new Professional Psychologist Program. Rector Prof. Chrismis was accompanied by Vice Rector II for Finance and Human Resources, Prof. Dr. Ermi Girsang, M.Kes., M.Biomed., AIFO., and Dean of the Faculty of Psychology, Dr. Sri Hartini, S.Psi., M.Si.

In her address, the Rector expressed UNPRI’s strong commitment to providing high-quality professional psychology education in Indonesia. With approval from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology and the Indonesian Association of Psychology Education Providers, UNPRI officially opens enrollment for psychology graduates from public and private universities nationwide for the 2025/2026 academic year.

Dean of the Faculty of Psychology, Dr. Sri Hartini, S.Psi., M.Si., warmly welcomed the program’s approval. She emphasized the urgent need for professional psychologists in Indonesia. “We see this as both an opportunity and a great responsibility to help the government address mental and social health issues, especially in North Sumatra. This program aims not only to produce competent psychologists but also to provide solutions for behavioral and personality issues that are often underserved,” she stated.

The Faculty of Psychology at UNPRI is now developing Digital Psychology, a growing field that studies human interaction with digital technology and its impact on behavior, emotions, and mental health. Through synergy with UNPRI’s seven other faculties, the Faculty strengthens its Socio-Technopreneurship vision — preparing graduates who are innovative, independent, adaptive, and entrepreneurial in navigating social and technological changes.

Graduates of UNPRI’s Professional Psychologist Program, mentored by experts such as Nurvica Sary P., S.Psi., M.Psi., Psychologist, will earn the professional title “Psychologist (Psi.)” with competencies in evaluation, diagnosis, therapy, and psychological counseling. Unlike psychiatrists, psychologists focus on psychotherapy without prescribing medication. Establishing this program required fulfilling rigorous accreditation standards, qualified permanent lecturers, adequate laboratories, and a curriculum based on Outcome-Based Education (OBE).

Rector Prof. Chrismis invited psychology graduates across Indonesia to join. “There is no need to go to Java anymore to pursue a psychology profession.
