Law Seminar at UNPRI Exposes Wide Open Career Opportunities for Law Graduates

Medan, Law is the main foundation in social, national, and state life. Its role is very vital in creating order, justice, and protection of individual rights and public interests. That is why career opportunities for Law Graduates are wide open.

This was stated by the resource person Dr. Elvira Fitriyani Pakpahan, SH, MHum, in the seminar "Getting to Know the World of Law in Career Opportunities and the Role of Law in the Future", which was held at the Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI) Campus, Jln. Sampul No. 3 Medan, Tuesday (4/2/2025).

Guided by moderator Dr. Rizki SH. M.Kn., Dr. Elvira explained that Bachelor of Law graduates can have careers as Judges, Prosecutors, lawyers (advocates), Notaries & PPAT (Land Deed Officials), Legal Consultants, Legal Academics/Researchers, Compliance Officers.

"Understanding the world of law is very important for every individual, both those who have a career in law and those who want to understand their rights and obligations in various aspects of life. In this seminar, we will discuss the scope of the world of law, available career opportunities, challenges faced, and how law will continue to develop in the future with social and technological changes," he said.

According to Dr. Elvira, the scope of the world of law consists of three parts, namely public law (criminal law, constitutional law and administrative law). Then private law, namely civil law, business law and family law. The third is international law and its development.

Asked about the challenges of the legal world, Dr. Elvira explained that the challenges of the legal world could be in the form of dynamic changes in legal regulations and policies, increasingly tight competition in the legal profession, technology and digitalization in the legal field, and ethics and professionalism in legal practice.

In line with the development of digitalization technology, some parties doubt the role of law in the future. However, according to Dr. Elvira, it is increasingly important. "In the digitalization of law, there is the involvement of AI and automation in resolving cases, cyber law and personal data protection, sustainable law and environmental law, restorative justice in the criminal justice system," she said.

To that end, Dr. Elvira recommends that students of the Faculty of Law continue to improve their qualifications and skills. "For example, the ability to analyze law and think critically, communication and negotiation skills, ethics and integrity in the legal profession, and adaptation to developments in law and technology," she added.

Dr. Elvira shared tips for entering the legal world, including strong legal education (Bachelor & Postgraduate Law), internships and practical experience in law offices/related agencies, professional networks and legal organizations, mastery of legal technology and foreign languages.
