Dean of the Faculty of Psychology USU Zulkarnain, Ph.D., Psychologist

Dean of the Faculty of Psychology, Mr. Zulkarnain, Ph.D., Psychologist was the main speaker in the seminar on improving Psychology publications held on Saturday, April 13, 2019 in a series of Prima Seminar (Semar Unpri) activities. He explained the obstacles in research and community service in Psychology, while also sharing knowledge about efforts that can be made to address these obstacles by increasing research competitiveness. He said that the development of science and technology has led to the 4.0 revolution which then leads to the development of creativity and innovation.

According to him, research is a basic need and plays a crucial and strategic role in the formation of academic quality, academic image and reputation, greatness and sustainability of a university in the competitive arena between universities.

Classic problems that often occur are difficulty in finding literature, limited funds, not being used to writing scientific papers, and lack of interest in research. Specifically, obstacles or constraints in research or student final assignments are divided into internal and external obstacles. Internal obstacles are due to laziness, low motivation, fear of meeting the supervisor, and difficulty adjusting, and external obstacles are caused by problems with the time of guidance. In general, obstacles in research are due to the habit of not doing research, fear of failure, pessimism, apathy, being complacent, not knowing information, and an unconducive academic atmosphere.
